Settlement of Corpus and Closure of NPS account in case NPS subscriber renounces Indian citizenship and does not hold OCI card

PFRDA vide circular no. PFRDA/2025/02/REG-EXIT/01 dated 21st April, 2025 has allowed closure of the NPS account of an NPS subscriber who has renounced Indian citizenship and does not hold OCI card by way of transfer of entire Accumulated Pension Wealth (APW) to the Non Resident Ordinary (NRO) account of such subscriber as per the process stipulated in the said circular.

In this regard, the subscribers seeking to withdraw the entire APW upon renunciation of Indian citizenship and not holding OCI Card are required to fill the application form available at Form and submit the duly filled and signed form along with all the requisite documents from the registered mail ID in their NPS account either at dept-exit@npstrust.org.in or physically at the office of NPS Trust.

Who can apply?
NPS subscribers who have renounced their Indian citizenship and do not hold OCI card.

How to apply?

The NPS subscriber who has renounced Indian citizenship and does not hold OCI card is required to fill the application form and the duly filled and signed form along with all the requisite documents from the registered mail ID in their NPS account either at dept-exit[at]npstrust[dot]org[dot]in or physically at the office of NPS Trust.

What are the documents required for settlement of corpus and closure of NPS account?
  • Self-certified copy of PRAN card. In case copy of PRAN Card is not available, print out of ePRAN duly self-certified may be enclosed.
  • Self-certified copy of valid passport of the subscriber issued by the foreign country of which the subscriber is citizen as proof of identity and address.
  • Self-certified copy of Bank Passbook or copy of NRO account statement (containing the name of the subscriber, type of account (please note that the account is mandatorily required to be NRO), NRO account number, IFS Code etc.) for direct credit or electronic transfer.
  • Self-certified copy of valid Certificate of renunciation of Indian citizenship / surrender certificate / cancelled Indian Passport issued by the competent authority.
  • Self-certified copy of PAN card issued by Indian Income Tax Authority.
  • Singed FATCA/CRS declaration form.
  • Any other document as NPS Trust may deem fit depending upon the circumstances of the application / claim.
I do not have an NRO account. Can the proceeds be transferred into another account?
No. NRO account is mandatory and the proceeds from the settlement of corpus and closure of NPS account will be transferred to NRO account of the subscriber only.
